LTdL 2011 Gets sponsorship boost from Genting Malaysia Berhad
2 December 2010, Bukit Jalil - A Sponsorship handover ceremony was held at the Dewan Commonwealth, Bukit Jalil yesterday attended by The Youth and Sports Minister of Malaysia, Yang Berhormat Dato' Sri Ahmad Shabery Cheek.
Ahmad Shabery expressed the hope that long-time LTDL partner Genting, who became the main sponsor with a RM1 million contribution to the event, to have their own team in future. Besides being the main sponsor, Genting will also sponsor the 'King of the Mountains' red jersey.
Genting Malaysia Berhad deputy chairman Tun Mohammed Hanif Omar confirmed that local riders will who finish in the top three of any stage of LTDL will receive RM3,000 and a two-night vacation package.
The Youth and Sports Minister of Malaysia is hopeful that road cycling will gain similar success but the immediate mission is to ensure Malaysia do well in the Ministry-funded Le Tour de Langkawi (LTDL) on Jan 23-Feb 1.
"Initially, badminton was thought to be the only sport which could deliver gold but Malaysia has shown a rapid rise in track cycling and they (cyclists) too can achieve gold in the London Olympics," added Ahmad Shabery yesterday.
Other VIPs include LTDL CEO Mohamad Salleh, Resorts World Bhd Corporate Services Vice President Mrs Kay Prakash and MNCF President Tuan Haji Abu Samah Abdul Wahab
